ABOUT DESI TASHAN...
Northville IASA is proud to present our ninth annual high school dance competition: Desi Tashan. We provide a platform for the top high school dance teams to compete and showcase their culture through dance styles such as classical, bhangra, Bollywood, and more. Please note that the date for Desi Tashan will be announced soon! It will take place at Northville High School. All dates below are tentative.
The amount of support Northville IASA receives each year from the dancers and the audience is stunning. In 2015, we donated $3,000 - the proceeds of the first ever Desi Tashan, increasing our donation every year gradually. Just last year we donated $20,000, and throughout eight years, Northville IASA has donated over $100,000 to Vista Maria with the help of our community!
AWARDS
Desi Tashan strives to remain being an unbiased competition where every team has a fair chance at competing. 5 experienced judges will fill out a rubric for each team on the day of the event similar to this example. Although Desi Tashan is a non-profit organization, we like to give teams small prize money to show our gratitude for the immense effort put in. The three teams with the highest number of points will earn a trophy for placing and award money as follows:
1st place: $700
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $300
TRYOUT VIDEO due December 1st

Although we would love to give each and every team the opportunity to compete at Desi Tashan 2024, we have a limited number of spots for teams. In order to maintain fairness, each team is requested to provide a video to showcase the quality and talent of their team. The Northville IASA board, along with dancers of collegiate level teams, will judge these videos similarly to how teams are judged on the day of the show.
Please include the link to a video that showcases your team's talent in the google form. It must include dancers from only the 2022-2023 season roster of your team. The length of the video must be between 2 and 5 minutes. The video must be continuous with no edits. You may post the video on Google Drive or YouTube with the necessary privacy settings.
PROMO CLIPdue January 12th
A small dancing clip should be submitted with current dancers on the team (preferably). This clip should be a minimum of 30 seconds long. These clips will be used for the hype video before Tashan, so the more professional the video can be, the better!
INTRO VIDEOdue January 19th
A short video (about a few minutes in length) should be provided that highlights the storyline of your dance along with any other details such as the dancer's names. This video will be played during the show prior to the beginning of your team’s performance. Although this is technically not graded in the rubric, hundreds of audience members will be viewing your performance. This is a fun oppurtunity to showcase your teams personality and creativity!
Along with this video, you must submit a small paragraph detailing how you would like your dance to be introduced (around a few sentences long).

1. Number of Competitors - 8 to 30 members/team
2. Registration Fees - Each participant must pay $20

5. Props - all props must be approved BEFORE competition
6. Performance Time Limit - 3 to 8 minutes
